Divorce Files: Henry’s Settlement Official

In order to avoid another nasty in court confrontation, Thierry Henry and Claire Merry made an £8 million divorce settlement. The settlement was made at the end of last week and both are content with the results. Thierry didn’t have to fork over his entire salary and Claire got close to her original request of £10 million. Wonder what was concluded in regards to the custody of their little one, Tea. Hope all is resolved when it comes to the baller’s bubba.

Cheryl and Ashley Hit Up Nobu

The happy happier couple were out at the original Nobu on Park Lane to have dinner with the Girls Aloud members, sans Nadine Coyle of course. After dinner they headed over to The Mayfair Hotel for cocktails. Cheryl Cole is looking ferosh in this Hervé Léger bandage dress. Must admit, that Ashley is looking quite dapper himself.

Steven Gerrard Tower: No Hunchbacks or Bells Here

Stevie-G was at London’s Dorchester Hotel last night with “Team Azizi” (a.k.a. Azizi Investments, a Dubai-based company). He was there to sign off on the designs for his very own signature tower, in which he will have a £1 million penthouse suite in reward for his endorsement and namesake. Alex must be exceedingly pleased with her new arrangements for Dubai holidays. I expect more footballers to follow suit.

Fernando Torres Out Until New Year

Although originally predicted to be out for only a couple of weeks, Fernando Torres is facing a month on the sidelines, as suggested by a Spanish specialist (say that ten times fast), while he thoroughly rests a hamstring injury picked up in the Champions League match against Marseille. Of course, Rafa is blaming the Spanish National team and their training procedures. Surprise, surprise.

Van der Vaart Intentionally Booked

In Huub Stevens new autobiography he tells a fairytale involving a Dutch international and his lovely wife spending a little extra time together. The story goes as follows:

Once upon a time, at Hamberger SV, there was an assistant coach who approached the manager with a surprising game prediction.

“Van der Vaart will deliberately pick up a fifth yellow card. His wife is celebrating her 30th birthday and he wants to be there.”

The gaffa was shocked, but just as predicted, #23 picked up a yellow for kicking a ball after the ref had already blown his whistle. So in the end, the rest of the squad went to Berlin to play Hertha, while Rafael sipped expensive champagne with one hand, and held his wife’s hand with the other. (I'm assuming pooty ensued for his hard work and yellow-card earning efforts to be with her on the big 3-Oh.) Can you really blame the guy? I mean, even I’m girl crushing a bit, or at least fashion crushing.

And they all lived happily ever after. Or at least VDV did.

Roy Keane Bids Farewell to Sunderland

Keano said goodbye to Sunderland this morning after a dismal run of form that sees the club barreling towards relegation. The former manager does deserve a massive round of applause though for bringing the club back into the Premier League and keeping it there as the only club promoted last season to stay in the upper echelon. In his closing statement he was appreciative of Sunderland and its members:

"I would like to thank my staff, players, Niall Quinn and in particular the fans for their support during my time at Sunderland, and I would like to wish the club every success in the future."

Ricky Sbragia, the club’s first team coach, will act as interim manager, with the assistance of reserve-team coach Neil Bailey and senior player Dwight Yorke.

Sunderland’s next match is against Keano’s former club Manchester United. I’m wondering if his convenient departure is a matter of avoiding the embarrassment of getting walloped at Old Trafford. Awfully suspicious, no?

Alex Gerrard and Bestie at La Vina

Congrats for learning how to match your bag and shoes in less than 24 hours. Truly a giant feat for you. That coat, on the other hand, needs to be burned. It doesn't even deserve to be taken to a second-hand shop. No one should ever have to resort to that type of fashion disaster. It's like a wookie got strangled by that leather waistband and had no other choice but to keep Alex warm for the evening. Horrifying.

I can't decide what I think of this look. There's that dopey old-man type style to the cap, but I can appreciate his throw-back to this Scottish roots. He is an old-man, so I guess I'll just have to say that he is looking rather dapper for a pensioner. HA!

Birthday Wishes: The Train and El Guaje

Michael Essien turns 26 today. He's looking to return from his nasty knee injury sometime in January all thanks to his mum. She's visiting from Ghana to take care of him while he's down and out. He is enjoying her cooking immensely. There's nothing like a mum's TLC to get a footballer back on his feet.



David Villa is 27 today. The Valencia player is looking to move in January, and seeing that Valencia are approaching bankruptcy they are looking eager to offload the Spanish striker. Chelsea and Manchester City are leading the pack, even though Chelsea have made multiple statements in regards to them NOT buying in the January transfer window. Interesting? I sure would love to see him come to the Bridge, but I'm not getting my hopes up.

Man City Ask Casillas to Join Them

The new Premier League big spenders, Manchester City have made an attempt to coax Real Madrid and Spain goalkeeper, Iker Casillas, to come to northern England. Not surprisingly, he said he wouldn't leave the two-time La Liga champions for a club that is barely keeping themselves in the middle of the Premier League table. I must admit that I think the Manchester City owners are leaning towards delusional in attmepting to get Casillas out of Spain.

They offered him £128million, which would come to an annual salary of £11million and a weekly pull of £230,000. That would make him the highest paid player in the world. Don't get me wrong, I think he's worth it, but Manchester City are in major denial if they think they can get him to come to the club with just money in mind. Needless to say, Iker and his agent rejected the bid and now Man City won't even have an opportunity to seek a formal bid with Real Madrid. Wishful thinking though guys.

Carly Zucker Jungle Update 3.12.08

According to reports, the WAG is being held in Australia against her will. And by against her will, I mean staying in a lavish 5-star hotel and most likely getting spa treatments on a daily basis. Carly is feeling very homesick though and would like to return home to her injured footballer fiance, Joe Cole. But in obeying the contract she signed when agreeing to do the show, she must stay in Australia until the show completes filming. That won't be until Friday. Poor Carly.

Side note: That spider bracelet is totally ferosh.

Girls Aloud Team Up With Coldplay!

So for Coldplay's second show at Wembley they've asked Girls Aloud to open the show for them. Apparently Chris Martin is a huge fan of the girl band. The Coldplay fellas in general are listeners of pop chart music. Who knew?



Jay-Z will be joining Coldplay for their first show at Wembley. The rapper collaborated with the groups newest single LOST!. It's pretty f'in sweet. Fo' shizzle.
