The Football Association has charged them with being unable to control their fans after violence broke out in their Carling Cup match against Millwall.
During the match, a Millwall supporter was stabbed outside the stadium grounds in East London and pitch invasions occurred after each West Ham goal scored in extra time.
A wide range of sanctions are available, but the more likely punishments include a hefty fine or a suspension sentence.
UPDATE: The club has been charged £115,000, which they can appeal in the 14 days after the decision was made.
