Rafael van der Vaart Makes EPL Debut

He did well. And when I say that, I mean, he had a short tent and then took his shirt off. Well played, Rafael. Well played.

Real Madrid's Goal Celebrations

Rafael van der Vaart was VERY excited after he scored. So much so, that his tight-fitting base layers were not enough to conceal said excitement.

Sergio Ramos took it to a whole other level by physically stimulating his excitement.

Wow.

The Ramos also chose to expose some thigh/bum for us as well. Thank you, dahling!

Um... is there any other word I can really use here besides perfection? Nah, didn't think so.

Real Madrid Plays Mallorca in Snow

Esteban Granero scored and did a very unique eye-patch-whilst-pointing-at-the-sky celebration that I'm not familiar with. Perhaps it's a pirate inside joke that I'm not in on. (Damn.)

Cristiano Ronaldo knelt down in the snow, making his kit cling in all the right places.

And Rafael van der Vaart got a boo-boo in his knee. (What does this mean for all the January transfer rumors? Hmmmmmm...)

Dutchmen Arrive for Training

Newly signed AC Milan striker, Klaas-Jan Huntelaar arrived to train with the Dutch international squad in the typical footballer combination of jeans, t-shirt, and grandpa sweater.

In training, Rafael van der Vaart looked to be suppressing a laugh while Ryan Babel looked on.

Birthday Wishes: February 11th and 12th

Rafael van der Vaart turned 26 yesterday. The Real Madrid and Netherlands midfielder has been suffering in form lately but hopefully his birthday luck can bring it all back.

Mark Bresciano of Palermo and Australia also had a birthday yesterday. He turned 29.

Jimmy Conrad, captain of the Kansas City Wizards of the MLS, turned 31 today.

Ok, so that was the most awful boring writing ever. I apologize. Will try harder next time.

Weekend Observations: Bad Hair, Bromance, and Bad Touches

Ok, so I get that maybe in returning to Tottenham, he needed to make a personal change. But the hair? Why, oh why, would a stylist allow someone to leave their shop looking like that. Bad advertising if you ask me.

Charlton Cole and Lucas Neill. I can feel the love. If only Bellamy had...

The Dutchmen at Real Madrid. The orange in their blood and the love in their hearts. So precious.

Poor Gareth Barry. Diof is giving him such a bad touch.

Van der Vaart Intentionally Booked

rafael van der vaart bookingsylvie van der vaart booking

In Huub Stevens new autobiography he tells a fairytale involving a Dutch international and his lovely wife spending a little extra time together. The story goes as follows:

Once upon a time, at Hamberger SV, there was an assistant coach who approached the manager with a surprising game prediction.

“Van der Vaart will deliberately pick up a fifth yellow card. His wife is celebrating her 30th birthday and he wants to be there.”

The gaffa was shocked, but just as predicted, #23 picked up a yellow for kicking a ball after the ref had already blown his whistle. So in the end, the rest of the squad went to Berlin to play Hertha, while Rafael sipped expensive champagne with one hand, and held his wife’s hand with the other. (I'm assuming pooty ensued for his hard work and yellow-card earning efforts to be with her on the big 3-Oh.) Can you really blame the guy? I mean, even I’m girl crushing a bit, or at least fashion crushing.

And they all lived happily ever after. Or at least VDV did.

Real Settle With Van Der Vaart

rafael at madrid
Real Madrid have finally conceded that they won’t be getting Cristiano Ronaldo this season and have settled for Dutchman, Rafael van der Vaart. The midfielder, formerly of Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga, has been eyed by Chelsea for many months, but sealed the deal with the La Liga champions yesterday and was presented to the media today followed by a training session. No details have been formally released yet, but the deal is supposedly for five years and worth about €13 million.

Yesterday on his personal website, Van der Vaart stated:

"Last night everything came together, and I am now moving to Real Madrid," the 25-year-old Hamburg captain announced on his website. As everybody might know I have always wanted to move to Spain, because I have a strong bond with that country. Now I'm going to play for Real Madrid - it's a dream comes true! Tomorrow (Tuesday) afternoon I will be presented at Real Madrid. This will be the start of a new chapter in my life. I will do everything to help the team and the club to win trophies."

On a personal note, I’m totally bummed that he isn’t coming to Chelsea. His good looks would have been a nice addition to the squad and Sylvie would have loved the shops in London, not that the shops in Madrid will be a disappointment.

Note: Sylvie is looking ferosh with that Birkin bag. She will fit in well with the Real WAGs. Also, his little bubba, Damian is ADORABLE!

Transfer Talk: Van der Vaart Not Interested in Spurs

rafael van der vaart SPURS

After a solid performance in EURO 2008, Rafael van der Vaart attracted the interest of many Premier League clubs, but when he spoke about Tottenham he had some harsh words to purvey:

“Tottenham are not a club I want to swap Hamburg for.”

Ouch! It’s nice to see a man who tells it how it is.

I personally believe that VDV should head to a different London club. But as everyone knows, I am undoubtedly biased. The watch above would already make him a friend with Frank "The Watch Man" Lampard.
