The Dutchy Dress Disputation

They sure got some tongues wagging, but that's not the reason why everyone's talking about the 36 female models who wore the Dutchy Dress to the Netherlands-Denmark match.




At halftime, FIFA officials and police approached the ladies and told them they had to leave. They were cited by FIFA under an "ambush marketing" charge, because Bavaria beer, who created the Dutchy Dress, is not a FIFA profitable sponsored product. Two of the girls were arrested, but released on £1,000 bail and told to return for court later this month.


It goes a bit further. The tickets that got the models into the match were traced to Robbie Earle, an ITV pundit at the World Cup. He has since been released by ITV and also as an ambassador for the England 2018 World Cup bid. Earle is claiming that he was naive to the use of the tickets and that he received no money for procuring them.

Van Nistelrooy Ends Oranje Duty

Ruud “Horseface” van Nistelrooy has decided to end his international playing career (again) in order to focus on playing for his club, Real Madrid.

"After I looked at the programmes of Real Madrid and Oranje, I came to the conclusion it is too heavy a burden because of the necessary physical effort. I have no other choice."

Van Nistelrooy had 33 goals in 64 appearances and had a wonderful performance for the Dutch during EURO 2008. Alas, the 32-year-old has made his choice.

EURO 2008: Dutchtastic Afternoon

I spent a lovely afternoon chatting with the ladies over at This is Extra Time yesterday whilst amusing myself watching the Netherlands wallop Italy, and avoiding eye contact with coworkers and superiors.

It was a fabulous game with the Netherlands dominating the majority of the match. It was the first time in 30 years that the Dutch had defeated the Italians, while making the task look practically effortless. The Italians looked to be stricken with some internal turmoil. Not a good sign.



Amongst game commentary and actual talk of football, topics such as “hand-butt,” Italian dirtiness, bottoms, thighs, calves, and knees were all discussed throughout. Needless to say, my afternoon was well spent.
