Euro 2008: Catfish In Football Related Fatality

catfishblue soccer ball

A catfish in a Bavarian canal was discovered dead after choking on a football. The 6-½-foot creature was found floating on the surface with a blue and white football in his mouth. For some unknown reason the police got involved and their spokesman had this to say:

"He tried to eat the ball and it got stuck."

Naw, really Captain Obvious?

And apparently a reporter was stupid enough to ask whether the fish committed a football related suicide due to Germany’s loss to Spain in the Euro 2008 Final. To this the spokesman responded:

“Whether the fish was caught up in soccer ball fever in the aftermath of the European championship and hence snapped at the ball can unfortunately not be determined.”

That’s surprising. Was it undetermined because the fish was dead or based on the fact that fish CAN’T talk? I don’t know whether to be more shocked at the stupidity of the media or the capability of the police in answering such a question with even more absurdity. My faith in humanity is being questioned.

EURO 2008: Dutchtastic Afternoon

dutch victory

I spent a lovely afternoon chatting with the ladies over at This is Extra Time yesterday whilst amusing myself watching the Netherlands wallop Italy, and avoiding eye contact with coworkers and superiors.

It was a fabulous game with the Netherlands dominating the majority of the match. It was the first time in 30 years that the Dutch had defeated the Italians, while making the task look practically effortless. The Italians looked to be stricken with some internal turmoil. Not a good sign.

Amongst game commentary and actual talk of football, topics such as “hand-butt,” Italian dirtiness, bottoms, thighs, calves, and knees were all discussed throughout. Needless to say, my afternoon was well spent.

Side Note: Congratulations to Wesley for scoring on his 24th birthday! Quite the pressie!

…as a pundit for BBC Five Live. Graham Taylor, the last England coach before McClaren to not qualify for a major tournament, will also be joining him. What a top-notch team Five Live has put together for our listening enjoyment. Were Statler and Waldorf already booked? Cracking job BBC, cracking job.

And Macca’s first assignment is the Croatia – Austria game. Just pouring more salt in the wound. I wonder what he’ll have to say? … "This one time, Paul Robinson..."

Sod it. I'm watching Sky.
